Advocate Mehmood Pracha has moved the Delhi High Court against the Delhi Police’s recent raids on his office. Pracha has said that the object of the Delhi police obtaining a search warrant from the Court is to repeatedly harass, intimidate and frighten him.

On March 4, the Delhi Police special cell obtained a search warrant from the concerned court, afterwards a computer was seized from Pracha’s office.

“This is to authorize and require the investigating officer of this case to search and seize the computer having primary evidence/documents which was identified on the previous search which is present at premises of Mr Mehmood Pracha.” the Delhi Police search warrant reads.

“It is also directed that Ld Advocate be informed politely about the search proceedings to be carried out at his premises.” the warrant further reads.

Paracha has said that he wasn’t informed about the search. He said that the police officers raided the office in his absence That, according to him, is the reason for directly approaching the Court.

“About a hundred police officials came to visit my office and take my computer today. I was not there, one of my clients told me. Then the officials called and said they had reached my office premises for a raid” as quoted by The Quint.

Earlier, in December 2020, Paracha’s office was searched by Delhi Police Special Cell.

These raids drew criticism from advocates and activists, who called them brazen violations of attorney-client privilege.

The continuous raids and searches at Pracha’s office come after Delhi police has alleged that Pracha is fabricating complaints of a victim of Northeast Delhi riots that took place in February last year.

After the recent raid Pracha has said that it’s deliberately being done by the Delhi Police in order to get hold of his computer where the entire case related information is secured.

Pracha said that giving the computer to the police will comprise the details of other clients who can be targeted by police. He said that He doesn’t want to put their lives at stake.
