Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee was seen in hospital with her left leg in a cast in a photo tweeted by her nephew Abhishek Banerjee this morning.
A day ago she alleged that she was attacked in Nandigram, where she filed her nomination for the assembly elections.
“BJP brace yourselves to see the power of people of BENGAL on Sunday, May 2nd. Get ready,” Abhishek tweeted along with Mamata’s picture.
Mamata Banerjee, 66, said last evening she was pushed by four or five people against her car and had the door shut on her at a time when there were no police personnel around her, reported NDTV.
Looking pale and pointing to her leg, she said, “See how it is swelling up”. Asked if it was a planned attack, she said, “Of course it is a conspiracy… there were no policemen around me”. She appeared to be in pain while speaking, the NDTV reported read.
Doctors at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata have said that there were injuries to her foot, shoulder and neck and she had been given painkillers.
The incident drew condemnation from politicians across India.
Disgusted to read of attack on West Bengal CM @MamataOfficial. Violence has no place in politics and civilized society. I wish her a speedy recovery. Those responsible must be put behind bars.— Capt.Amarinder Singh (@capt_amarinder) March 10, 2021
Concerned & disturbed to know about the foot injury & hospitalisation of @MamataOfficial Didi during her election campaign in Nandigram. A high level investigation should be conducted to identify those behind this incident & punished. I wish her a speedy and healthy recovery .— Hemant Soren (@HemantSorenJMM) March 10, 2021
Meanwhile, the BJP Bengal twitter handle posted videos, denying that an attack took place.
Not one eye witness seems to corroborate Mamata Banerjee’s ‘attack’ version. People of Nandigram are upset and angry at her for blaming them and bringing disrepute.— BJP Bengal (@BJP4Bengal) March 11, 2021
Clearly she is nervous about her prospects in Nandigram and has now lost confidence, if any, of the people too… pic.twitter.com/vBFFjbt1UF
