A 12-year-old Muslim boy was abused and mercilessly beaten by a man named Shringi Nandan Yadav for drinking water inside a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
A disturbing video of the incident was posted to Twitter by Alt News co-founder and fact-checker Mohammed Zubair.

In the video, the man identified as Shirangi can be seen inquiring about the identity of the boy and his presence in the temple. As soon as the boy tells him that he has come to drink water and his name is ‘Asif’, the boy is thrashed by Shirangi.
Shirangi has been arrested by the Ghaziabad police. He is identified as a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar. The police have taken Yadav into custody and a case has been registered against him.
In the video, the minor boy can be seen pleading for mercy as the man twists his arm with force.
The act of violence faced backlash from people online, many called for legal action against the preparator.
Global Correspondent of the Byline Times, CJ Werlrman, took to Twitter and wrote, “Horrific!! A mob of Hindu extremists viciously assault a Muslim boy for drinking water from a temple in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The perpetrators know their violence has the tacit approval of the state, so they uploaded the attack on social media!”

Congress leader Salman Nizami pointed out to the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party and wrote on Twitter, “So much for sabka saath, savka vishwas when Muslims are being beaten for drinking water. BJP has incentivized hate and violence!”
Shirangi Yadav has posted several pictures with guns on social media; after the incident, multiple appeals were made to raise money for Shirangi.

“A case has been filed against the ‘lion’, let’s see how much money will the ‘warriors’ get,” read one of the posts.
