At least four people were killed and dozens of others were injured when protestors clashed with police in Chittagong’s Hathazari.
According to The Dhaka Tribune, The clash broke out when the Hefazat-e-Islam activists launched a demonstration in the Hathazari police station area after Jummah prayers on Friday protesting the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
Witnesses said the situation escalated quickly when Hefazat followers were seen throwing brickbats at police. At that time, the police tried to disperse the protesters by first firing tear shells followed by rubber bullets and shotguns, The Dhaka Tribune report read.
Meanwhile, protests have broken out at various places in the country including Dhaka, where, police used tear gas and rubber bullets – injuring scores of people – after clashes broke out at Dhaka’s main mosque–Baitul Mukarram.
Indian Premier Narendra Modis is on a two day visit to Bangladesh.
