A group of Bajrang Dal men attacked and stabbed a 23 year old Muslim youth Aswid Ansar Mohammed who was travelling to Bengaluru in a private bus along with his female friend from another religion near Pumpwell in Mangaluru on Thursday.
Ashwini Shanubhag, 23, the female who accompanied him was also injured.
“On Mangaluru city outskirts yesterday, around 9:30 pm, a bus was obstructed and a boy and girl who are classmates and friends, belonging to different religions, were made to get down from the vehicle. The boy was beaten up – and when the girl tried to come in the way, she was also hurt,” NDTV quoted Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Shashi Kumar as saying.
“They were classmates and the girl told us she had known the boy for many years,” he added.
According to latest media reports, the injured Muslim youth is in hospital and his condition is stable.
The Mangaluru city police arrested four members of the Bajrang Dal (Anil Kumar, Jayaprashant, Dhanush Bhandary, Balachandra) on Friday and booked them for rioting, promoting enmity between communities, assault and attempt to murder. They were later produced before a local court.
