West Bengal Elections: Five dead in poll-related violence in Cooch Behar

Five people being reportedly been killed in two separate incidents in Cooch Behar on Saturday.

Four people were killed just before noon, allegedly when central forces opened fire after they were attacked.

PTI quoting an unnamed senior police official said that CISF opened fire.

In its complaint to the Election Commission of India, the Trinamool Congress said: “In Booth no. 126 of Sitalkuchi, 5 people have been shot dead after BJP captured the booth.” 

The party, in the letter by Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, further said that “according to our sources on the ground, all five were AITC workers”.

“We condemn the role played by central forces and the election commission. We have lost four people . Four persons were injured. Our condolences to the family members. This should stop immediately,” said Dola Sen of the TMC has said.

The Election Commission has adjourned polling at the booth that witnessed violence.

Narendra Modi has also condemned the violence and said,“What happened in Cooch Behar is very saddening. My sympathies are with the families of those who died, I condole their demise.”

Modi also took a dig at the West Bengal CM and said, “Didi and her goons are perturbed, seeing the people’s support for BJP. She has stooped to this level as she can see her chair slipping away.”
