The Delhi Government has announced a weekend lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The curfew will come into force from 10 pm Friday till 6 am on Monday, as stated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“To control the spread of Covid-19, it has been decided to impose a weekend curfew in Delhi”, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said while addressing a press conference.

“Restrictions announced today are necessary to contain the spread of coronavirus in Delhi,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced revised restrictions and guidelines, including the closure of malls, gyms, spas, takeaway in restaurants, cinema halls with 30% capacity and auditoriums in order to break the structural chain of spreading the deadly virus.

Curfew passes will be issued to people to avail essential services.

The announcement was made after due consideration with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal regarding the current healthcare conditions in the Union territory.

Ten states including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a rise in the Covid-19 daily new cases.
