As India struggles with a second wave of the coronavirus, there is a scarcity of hospitals in several states including oxygen, medicines, beds and other healthcare facilities.

Keeping this in view, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has directed all the Hajj Houses of the country to give permission to the state governments to utilise them as temporary care centres for COVID-19 patients.

“It has been decided to give Hajj Houses in different states of the country to the state governments to utilise them as temporary Corona Care Centre,” said Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minister of Minority Affairs.

The Haj Committee Houses to be given to states include those in Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi, Telangana, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Tripura.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Hajj House has already been converted into COVID center to cater to the patients of Covid-19. Last year too, it accomodated thousands of patients and served them with hospital facilities within a Hajj house.
