Palestinian armed group Hamas has said it is ready to thwart any new transgression on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

“Hamas is prepared to stand up to any plot that could seek displacement of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque, change its identity or Judaize it”, Iranian state television Press TV quoted Abdul Latif al-Qanu, the Gaza Strip-based group’s spokesman, as saying.

The Hamas official is also reported to have said that the Palestinian nation keeps its defensive equipment handy in case the occupying regime seeks to renew its attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Israel’s intensified attacks on Gaza has resulted in the killing of hundreds of Palestinians, yet the resistance group seems determined to face any fresh attacks.

According to the Hamas official, “a security delegation” from Egypt has visited the enclave to assess the catastrophes yielded by Israel’s atrocities. The delegation, he says, has examined the extent of damage, Gaza’s reconstruction and potential ending of Israel’s siege on the territory as well as potential prolongation of the standing ceasefire.

The ceasefire has come after 11 days of skirmishes between Hamas and Israeli Forces, beginning in the holy month of Ramadan to commemorate the holy night of Qadr.

However, the latest fighting ended on May 21, with Israel claiming to have killed around 230 Palestinians, leaving 1900 injured while Hamas killing 12 Israelis and over 200 injured.

Hamas, however, had claimed victory over Isreal.

Khalil al-Hayya, the second most senior member of group had called it “the euphoria of victory.” Hamas had also promised to reconstruct homes destroyed by Israeli air strikes.
