A local court in Delhi dismissed the plea of Delhi Police seeking to present Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi in the court while being handcuffed.
The Delhi police had filed a petition in this connection terming both of them are ‘risk prisoners’. But the court denied entertaining the plea as it has no substance.
The court observed that the plea was filed without any sense by Delhi Police and prison authority as Khalid and Saifi are not gangsters or even convicts and don’t have any criminal history or record.
The Additional Sessions Judge in an order said, “The accused persons, who are sought to be produced in fetters and handcuffs, are admittedly not convicts. They are not even gangsters”.
Both Khalid and Saifi are languishing in jail since last year along with several students and activists for voicing up against the discriminatory and unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act.
They are slapped with UAPA for their alleged role in Northeast Delhi riots that took place in February last year.
